Drew Austin

Historic Hot Springs Loop Tour, Colorado

October 2017

Drew is an interdisciplinary artist and curator working in Colorado. Drew’s work uses a cyclical method of creation to explore the things that we often can not see or understand. He uses abstraction as a means to create visual representations of the natural world as he understands it in relation to the rest of the universe. Mundane situations, domestic space, slow growth, and light are constant fixtures in his work. Portrayed primarily through collage, painting, sculpture, and light-based installation, Drew’s work functions as a conduit for understanding and comprehension of everyday things both large and small in a human-dominated world. He graduated as valedictorian with his BFA from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in 2017. He is currently a resident artist at The Temple art studios and the Curator of Visual Arts at Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, CO. Drew created an immersive installation full of disjointed images, layered content and various levels of sound called “It’s What’s Beneath” for his ode. The intention of the piece is to give you the experience of mutual aid, leaning on other viewers to understand the content.

Drew and fellow Wayfarer Michael sit together in the woods. The trees are shades of yellow, green, and red and leaves are scattered on the ground. Drew and Michael are laughing.
