2017 Upcoming Opportunities

Anyone can travel with The Wayfaring Band! Our trips are open to adult travelers who experience cognitive and developmental differences, as well as neurotypical leadership fellows. All members of the band have access to the same experiences on tour: adventurous activities, recreation and relaxation with friends, and a chance to increase life and leadership skills by participating in our vigorous social leadership program. No matter your desire for exploration, growth, and transformation, The Wayfaring Band has an adventure in store for you. Be a part of it!

Most of our tours welcome 10-12 travelers to the band. Those travelers join five trained staff members (or “roadies”), and one artist-in-residence for an inclusive, transformative adventure. All trips fill on a first-come, first-served basis. When trips fill, we will create a waitlist. Email us to register!

Join the band for a winter retreat at the trendy Basecamp Hotel in nearby Boulder. The fun kicks off Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday morning. Activities include a laser light show featuring music by Outkast at Fiske Planetarium, sipping tea at the Celestial Seasonings factory, touring Boulder in an old-timey Banjo Billy bus, strolling the historic Pearl Street outdoor mall, and hosting a pizza party with friends from our CU Boulder community of travelers. This opportunity is designed to welcome new participants to the Wayfaring community: spend a weekend getting to know us, and then sign up for a longer trip later in the year! Spots for veteran travelers will be limited, so sign up soon.

Escape to the Sunshine State for spring break! We’ll also snorkel Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, where we will get in some good quality beach time. Finally, we will charter a boat to visit Biscayne National Park on the Atlantic coast, the largest marine park in the national park system. This tour is activity-packed and perfect for water and adventure enthusiasts.

Come lads and lassies, and bring your Scottish brogue! The band is bound for Scotland, one of the most staggeringly beautiful locations on the globe. Together we will first explore London, where will dive deep into traditional British culture. Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, and a ride on the famous London Eye ferris wheel are all on the list. Then we board the train north to Edinburgh, a city famous for its beauty and history. After strolling Edinburgh’s cobbled streets, we’ll head up into the western highlands in a private minibus, from which we’ll take in the breathtaking beauty of the vast bluffs and looming cliffs. After exploring the Fort William area and learning the history of the region, we’ll board the Jacobite steam train, which has been awarded the distinction of being “the world’s most beautiful train ride.” If the setting feels familiar, it is because it is the same train used to travel to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter movies!  We ride the rails all the way to Mallaig, where we’ll catch the ferry to the pristine Isle of Skye. On the island we’ll visit the enchanted Fairy Pools, attempting to cross into other worlds beyond the mist. Back on the mainland, we’ll travel east to Inverness and search for the famed resident of the Loch before spending the night in Aviemore near Cairngorn Mountain. Finally, we will make our way back to London, where we’ll dig into the history of the Beatles and trace the footsteps of Jack the Ripper before boarding our plane back to Denver. Our itinerary will expose you to an authentic side of London and Scotland, where history and tradition collide with modern culture. This is a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and the fee includes transportation originating in Denver and all meals, lodging, activities, and gratuities for 11 full days of adventure. Participants must be able to carry their own travel backpacks for short periods of time and hike medium-grade inclines.

Hipster Haven, here we come! Midsummer is the best time of year to visit lush Oregon, and we are looking forward to traipsing through the public rose garden, sampling delicious offerings at farmers markets, and riding our bikes leisurely along the banks of the Willamette River. We’ll thumb through books at Powell’s, scarf a doughnut from Voodoo’s, and even head to the Oregon coast one day, where we have chartered a boat for whale-watching. Portland is famous for its farm-to-table food, eco-friendly initiatives, and arts-focused culture. Join us in July… we’ll eat, we’ll laugh, we’ll commune with nature, and we’ll #putabirdonit in Portland. Let’s go!

There’s nothing more classic than an RV trip through the American West! Pile onboard a beautiful Class C RV as we press westward from Denver to explore the natural jewels of Utah. After crossing over the massive Rockies we’ll slow our pace in Eastern Utah to hunt for fossils and ancient petroglyphs outside of Green River. Then we’re bound for Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks, where we’ll dig in for a few days while we explore the stunning terrain. We’ll be caravanning between our RV and a passenger van, which will give us more freedom to explore by day. At night, wayfarers will have the choice to sleep in the RV, outside in a tent, or under the stars! Between exploring, swimming, and general camp shenanigans, this tour promises to be activity-packed and perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. We only have space for 12 travelers total, so this tour will be one of the most intimate adventures we offer. Sign up now and secure your spot!
